Download Mac Remapper
Free and open source. Runs entirely on your Mac.
Before you install
- Mac Remapper needs Accessibility access to remap keys system-wide — you'll be prompted to grant it on first launch.
- The app isn't signed or notarized by Apple, so macOS will warn you the first time you open it. You only need to approve it once (see step 3 below).
- Your key mappings are stored locally in
~/Library/Application Support/MacRemapperand never leave your Mac.
Installing
- Download the
.dmgabove and open it. - Drag Mac Remapper into your Applications folder.
- Open Mac Remapper. macOS will say it can't verify the app — click Done. Then open System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll down, click Open Anyway next to the Mac Remapper message, and confirm. You only need to do this once.
- Grant Accessibility access when prompted, then start creating profiles from the menu bar icon.
